AHA NSW represents the interests of hoteliers and licensees – from small individual operated hotels and bars to large multi-hotel groups – right across metropolitan and country areas of NSW.
Members have access to a range of services available from AHA NSW head office in Sydney or from the membership liaison team who service and support all members across NSW.
Membership liaison officers conduct on-site visits of member venues providing industry briefings and are also on call 24/7 to assist members with day-to-day enquiries.
The range of other services membership provides are specifically tailored to operational business needs and include:
Legal and Industrial Affairs
The AHA NSW’s Legal and Industrial Affairs team is a key component in the Association’s delivery of services to members and upkeep of the broader hospitality industry.
The primary function of the team is to provide strategic advice and representation to the Association and its members on a range of legal and industrial matters including employment law and industrial relations; liquor licensing; gaming; compliance and commercial contracts.
HTA Legal
Legal services are provided to AHA NSW members through HTA Legal, a legal practice established, owned and operated by the Association for the benefit of its members. Services include unfair dismissal, general protections claims, underpayment claims, Fair Work Ombudsman investigations/prosecutions, enterprise agreements and general discrimination claims. In addition, HTA Legal now provides a specialist liquor licensing and compliance service in addition to our traditional employment and industrial relations practice. Discounted and subsidised fee arrangements are available for the exclusive benefit of our members who are clients of HTA Legal.
Liquor and Policing
The Liquor and Policing Department provides advice and support to members interacting with NSW Police, Liquor and Gaming NSW, Local Government and other Government agencies. This includes liquor licensing issues and potential breaches of liquor laws as well as armed holdups and other criminal behaviour occurring in and around licensed premises. We also provide support to liquor accords and Sub-Branches, providing advice, meeting attendance and support.
Member Portal
Member only portal access which contains resources such as fact sheets, awards, wage rates and template contracts, letters, best practice guides and policies. Every member has their own dedicated, confidential portal of resources to assist them to better understand and comply with the Fair Work Act 2009, the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2010 (HIGA) and general legal and industrial relations obligations.
Entain
The AHA NSW and Entain have partnered to promote Ladbrokes & Neds digital non-retail wagering inside hotels.
The reason for the new partnership is simple. We want to give AHA NSW members competition and choice in wagering.
A key feature of our new partnership is that Entain is committed to providing significant support to every AHA NSW member hotel which signs a sponsorship agreement. These funds can be used to cover your costs, including Sky, EBTs and Foxtel etc.
For decades many NSW hotels have operated PubTABs for Tabcorp at a significant loss – primarily due to high Sky Channel and EBT fees. In country NSW the majority of country pubs currently run their PubTAB at a loss.
Continued support for Tabcorp’s retail PubTABs
Importantly, the AHA NSW remains committed to supporting Tabcorp’s retail wagering in NSW hotels. Tabcorp have an exclusive retail licence in NSW and cash betting through PubTABs is still extremely important to NSW hotels.
It is our intention AHA NSW member hotels which sign a non-retail digital sponsorship agreement with Entain will also have the opportunity to continue to operate and promote their in-venue retail PubTAB.
Key points of the AHA NSW and Entain agreement:
- NSW pubs which decide to enter into sponsorship arrangements with Entain will display in-venue advertising for Ladbrokes or Neds promoting their digital wagering platforms
- NSW hotels will continue to operate Tabcorp’s retail wagering in their venues
- NSW pubs which enter into sponsorship arrangements with Entain will not:
- install or operate any physical Entain wagering facilities
- advertise to the general public on the exterior of their hotel
- receive any commission from Entain for any bets placed
- have staff operating Entain wagering terminals eg portable iPads or phones
- have staff accepting bets from hotel patrons on behalf of Entain
- do anything else which may offend Tabcorp’s retail exclusivity in NSW
- Punters in pubs will do exactly as they do now – place cash bets via the TAB betting terminal or bet on their phone via the bookmaker of their choice.
